 炊きたてのゴハンに対する賞賛の言葉に「うわぁ、お米が立ってる！」というものがある。上手に、おいしそうに炊けた場合に言われる表現だ。
私は長らく自炊生活を続けているが、米が全員「ピン！」と直立しているところなど見たことがない。よその家では立っているのだろうか？
思い立って炊いたお米に手をくわえて全部立ててみたら、正直少し気持ち悪かった。てっきり「米が立つ＝おいしそう」だとばかり思っていたのだが、まるっきり逆の結果となった。意外だ。「なにごとも、ほどほどがいい」ということだろう。（高瀬 克子）

Standing ovation from rice!
|
 In Japan, some people cry "Wow, rice is standing up!" when they look at cooked rice. We know that it is admiration for the rice which looks well cooked.
As far as I'm concerned, I have never seen such rising rice though I have been cooking rice myself for a long time. Am I the only one who haven't seen it? Would it be seen in the other homes?
I decided to make all grains of cooked rice be upstanding on purpose. To be honest, it looked rather awful. It was the complete opposite that I expected. I was surprised to see that. Maybe I did too much. Much would not be always better.
